Just because it’s the middle of the winter doesn’t mean it’s not the perfect time to head to the beach. If anything, I could come up with a serious argument for why Dewey/Rehoboth Beach is the most peaceful, magical, and overall enjoyable during the off season. The usually over crowded boardwalk is empty, the crazy and hectic traffic has died out, and the beautifully clear beach is deserted for miles, serving as your own private playground. Not to mention – you won’t hear any late night partying or see any juvenile delinquents running around; school is in session and only the true locals remain behind to cherish their quiet and tranquil town.

It’s also the best time to hit up all the delicious & tasty food spots, as you’ll practically have every coffee shop, juice bar, and candy shack all to yourself. Come winter or summer, snow or shine, these are the sweetest and tastiest spots you don’t want to miss! Listed in order of “great for your diet” to “totally breaking your New Years Resolutions” …

The 6 sweetest spots:

(Disclaimer: not all of the mentioned are open year-round.)

(Pictures courtesy of @greenmanjuicebar because I – surprise, surprise – ate my food too quickly before snapping a pic)

Known for: Fresh pressed juice, smoothies, coffee, breakfast, & lunch.

Green Man Juice Bar & Bistro is located one block off the main boardwalk and has a mouthwatering selection of breakfast items. Not only are their ingredients fresh and local, but they have a wide array of vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options. Don’t leave without trying the Vegan Beast smoothie, Roasted Beet Salad, or the Eco-Chic sandwich. Metered parking is right out front, and they have both inside and outdoor seating on a covered porch. Eating healthy has never been easier, you can’t go wrong with this menu!

(Again, pictures courtesy of @juicebox.rehoboth because I eat my food like a monster)

Known for: Acai bowls, wheatgrass shots, organic fresh pressed juice, 100% fruit smoothies, organic lunches, & coffee.

With a name like Juice Box, how could you go wrong? Sweet, tasty, and healthy is the perfect combination and what makes this hidden charm a must visit. Especially if you’re getting ready for bikini weather and trying to stick to that 2017 #detoxdiet. Everything on the menu will leave you feeling refreshed and energized, without that overly full “my-pants-might-pop-off” feeling.

It’s always time for a Kaisy!

Known for: Breakfast, coffee, and a pancake-like pastry known as a kaisy.

This bright pink Austrian family-owned bakery is guaranteed to brighten up your morning and is my absolute favorite spot in the area. Kaisy’s Delights is always my first stop when I drive into town and my last as I grab a coffee for the road. They have the best vanilla chai latte I have ever had in my life, and the staff is ridiculously friendly. They even have gluten-free options and almond milk & dairy substitutes! Guaranteed to leave with a smile on your face 🙂

Known for: Lemonade & ice cream!

I scream, you scream, we all scream for homemade ice cream! You’ll be hard pressed to find a sweeter spot than Archie’s ice cream. It’s not only the best ice cream in all of Dewey and Rehoboth, but everything is made in house. The strawberry and mint chocolate chip are popular favorites, although I find it hard to resist the coconut. Dairy free? They have options for you too – try the sweet & tangy frozen orangeade – OR one of the many lemonades. Choose from classic, raspberry, black raspberry, blueberry, strawberry, or mint!

Known For: Salt water taffy, popcorn, and candy!

Your trip to the beach isn’t complete without some salt water taffy on the boardwalk. Dolle’s Candyland is located right on the corner of Rehoboth Avenue, directly on the boardwalk, you can’t miss the huge Dolle’s sign. Pop on in for some chocolate fudge and popcorn, and enjoy your tasty treat as you stroll down the beach. Definitely not the healthiest option on the list, but surely one of the sweetest. (They do have dairy and gluten free options as a bonus!)

Known for: DOUGHNUTS!

If a picture is worth a thousand words, I can just stop now. No description will accurately do this heavenly little doughnut shop justice. From the bright purple and green decor, to the over the top welcoming servers, it’s the perfect place to start your morning. Pair any of their delectable doughnuts with a cup of coffee and I guarantee you’ll be starting your day off on the right foot. With 19 different glazes and 13 original toppings, you can create your own or choose from one of their many specialties. Top favorites: carnival, salted caramel, rocky shores, and strawberry shortcake! See the full menu here.

Time for a little yoga on the beach to burn off those sweets!
